Pregnancy Care

pregnancy-chiropractic.jpg
Pregnancy changes a woman's body in numerous ways. All ligaments loosen with increased production of the hormone relaxin. This laxicity requires muscles to work harder to provide joint stabalization. The laxicity coupled with healthy weight gain and changes in center of gravity contribute to common overuse pain syndromes. Foot, knee, pelvis, low back, shoulder, head and neck pain as well as sciatica and tingling in the hands can all be related to the changes in your growing body.

Dr. Vicki utilizes many safe, effective and gentle techniques to relieve pain syndromes. Soft tissue management, joint mobilization, ergonomic instruction and home stretching and strengthening programs are incorporated into your treatment plan. Studies show 30% decreased labor times for woman who have had regular chiropractic care throughout their pregnancy due to the freedom of motion in the pelvic joints, muscles and soft tissue structures.

Let us help you fully embrace your pregnancy by taking care of your changing body!

Webster's Breech Turning Technique

Webster's Breech Turning Technique gently releases tension within soft tissues to allow for easy movement of the baby in utero. Dr. Vicki will assess the motion of your sacroiliac joints as well as palpate the tone of your round ligament on the abdomen. She uses a gentle soft-tissue technique to release restrictions within the SI joint as well as within the round ligament. Dr. Vicki DOES NOT touch your baby! Unlike external version, this technique focuses on the optimal movement within your pelvic structures to allow for more freedom of movement within your uterus, and thus provides more room for your baby to turn.

This is a safe and gentle conservative approach to allow your baby to move into a head-down position!

Postnatal Fitness, Strengthening & Conditioning

chiropractic-care-pregnancy.jpg Postnatal care is very important to help the new mother regain abdominal and low back strength and stability in order to cope with the many physical challenges that accompany the demands of new motherhood. New moms need to enjoy their beautiful babies with a healthy, nourished body. Dr. Vicki optimizes muscle and joint dysfunction postnatally with mobilization and soft tissue techniques for the low-back, pelvis, upper back, neck and shoulders.

Dr. Vicki works closely with Heather Colgan, Certified Athletic Trainer, to design an individualized cardiovascular, strengthening and weight management treatment plan based on your health goals. One-on-one training with weights, balance boards, cardio equipment and the like will prepare you to safely manage the physical demands of breastfeeding, lifting a car seat, and the numerous poor postural habits associated with caring for your precious baby!

Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation

The Pelvic Floor is a dynamic structure, similar to a muscular hammock. It serves to support your pelvic organs. The pelvic floor amazingly stretches, contracts and works naturally to birth a baby! However, just like other muscular structures, these tissues can become damaged, strained and weak. Often, without proper rehabilitation, the muscles cannot fully recover, resulting in ineffective use of this essential structure.

Pelvic Floor dysfunction can result in urinary incontinence, chronic pelvic pain, vulvodynia and various other syndromes. The exciting news is that all muscle and tensile tissue like the pelvic floor responds beautifully to therapeutic rehabilitation, including specific soft tissue lengthening techniques and strengthening exercises. Dr. Vicki will also evaluate the relationship of your pelvic joints and core/abdominal stability to the pelvic floor in an effort to help you achieve a strong responsive pelvic floor that works dynamically with a stable core. This will help you to achieve a better quality of life and prevent symptom progression in the future.
